Please try your best to follow the guidelines below. They are here because SWVA prides itself on being a great VA with good, professional pilots and to make your flight more enjoyable for you, your fellow pilots, and ATC.
1. Do not worry about getting a specific gate or even a SWA gate during events. There will be times when this is not possible so if you find yourself on top of another aircraft. Sign offline and move to a different gate.
2. When a pilot is ready for IFR clearance they must first ask me if they can request IFR clearance from ATC. I will be creating an order in a first come first served basis. Once you are ready I will give you a number and the PID of the pilot you are after. This will only be used for IFR clearances only. Push and Taxi are on your own
3. Departure speed will be 250kts below 10,000ft. 280kts will be used after 10000ft until you hit cruise speed
4. Cruise speed will be at mach .74 - .78 unless otherwise requested from ATC. Do not fly at mach .82 Flying at mach .82 gives ATC extra work to do because they have to worry about separations and planes catching up to others. We want to make it as easy as we can for them.
5. Do not pass another aircraft on the same route as you even if they are on a different flight level than you. Try your best to maintain at least a 5nm separation from aircraft around you.
6. This is probably the most important out of all of them. When communicating with ATC BE PATIENT!!! This is not a race. "First listen Then talk" If ATC requests something from you respond quickly after he/she is finished. If you have a request for ATC wait until other pilots are done reading back there instructions then go ahead with your request.
7. Use your SWVA PID as your vatsim callsign
8. In your comments section please have virtualswa.com and the event name
9. Have required charts on board I will be providing links from now on for required charts.
