Link to sign up >>>> http://ctp.vatsim-uk.org/index.php

Come on guys lets see if we can get some SWA callsigns in the mix...i'm flying EIDW-KIAD (mainly because i reckon LHR and JFK will be absolutely manic)

**i've set a NG up at dublin airport, put a route in to KIAD, filled the tanks and so far no "INSUFFICIENT FUEL" warnings from the FMC so its possible that the NG maaaaaaaaaaaaaaay just make it

I'm seriously thinking about going. Think Mark and Eric will let me take this:

Could you post your flightplan, Steve, or is CTP the type of event that requires the current NATS, which obviously won't be available until that day?

Yep, figured that out after I put the above post in. Decided what the heck and just booked a time slot. I leave EIDW shortly after 1500Z. Already downloaded EIDW and KIAD scenery and have the complete chart sets for both. I'm gonna fly a practice run offline and then wait in anxious anticipation for March 27th.

Thanks Steve

Hey Steve,

I actually downloaded three files to make my EIDW look as real as I could get it.

The first is a landclass change to get rid of the residential autogen that isn't really around EIDW from what I understand and adds the village of "Scones" (I think) to the North which apparently is a big VFR landmark for EIDW. That file I got from AVSIM here:

http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=124032

Second one is the airport itself. It's from IFSD, which is no longer in business but a kind contributor has posted it and the update in one package also on AVSIM here (btw, not sure about use of this. Be sure and read the disclaimer the contributor places with the file. Still, AVSIM let it be posted so what the heck):

http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=130960

Final one is a vehicle file for the Dublin Airport that only works if you use the IFSD scenery above:

http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=80819

Landclass and vehicles are just simple .bgl files that go in fs9/addon scenery/scenery if I remember right. The IFSD files come with self-installers and is easy as silk loading. Here's a shot of my Dublin at night:

You'll be halfway to Dulles before I depart, but I really didn't relish the idea of getting up at 5:00 A.M. Saturday for a 1200Z departure. Probably no more than you like staying up late so you can fly stateside, huh?

Cheers.

Well, I flew my first practice run for Cross The Pond today from EIDW to KIAD. Flight was entirely after daylight so no screenshots. Dublin Control was online when I got ready to depart. Very nice gentleman and very helpful about Irish Airspace procedures. Flightplan was INKUR4E Rwy 10 (which was assigned by Dublin, you don't file departures there, the controller assigns it with your clearance) INKUR KOKER CRN MOMIN NATC MALOT 5320N 5330N 5240N 5050N KOBEV YQX J577 YQY J575 BOS J42 RBV MXE HYPER2. That NAT was for the current TMI, 063, so it won't apply come CTP2010.

An oceanic controller I think was online west of ireland, EURW_FSS, but he never contacted me or sent me a PM. Dublin Control had sent me over to UNICOM stating no further controllers were online so I did not contact him because his "airspace" was not "lit up" on ServInfo or VATSPY. I presume he was just "watching".

Took me 6 hours and 29 minutes to make the trip. I got in a lot of Modern Warfare 2 on XBOX today. I'm gonna do it again on the 14th in conjunction with VATEIR's St. Patrick's Day event and get a taste of what to expect.

Slots for CTP2010 are going fast, so if you wanna go, better book a slot soon.

Thanks for the links Randy....i'm downloading them as we speak :D

Did you do your trial run in a 737 then? what was your fuel useage/payload? I think pretty much most of europe you get assigned your SID when you get clearance and (certainly at LHR) you get your STAR from approach...or possibly center i can't remember which lol

i don't know what EURW is...never heard of that one but i do know theres an EURM which is Maastricht Eurocontrol which is like one big center for the whole of mainland europe.

Hopefully i'll manage a trial run myself sometime before the event....i might use your route save me making one lol.

As for getting up at 5am...i really don't blame ya :D You're right, mostly the reason i don't fly SWvA events is because of the time difference...when airline events are starting at 0000z or 0100z that really is midnight or 1am for me...and since i work most saturdays i've normally been up since around 0500z and would probably keel over into my keyboard  Not to mention we are a family of 6 and there would be plenty of words had if i kept people awake talking to ATC and as you probably know it is soooooooooooooooo much effort trying to type a readback when you're trying to turn to final and finish configuring the plane for landing

EURW is Eurocontrol west. They control most of the western centers above FL240 in Europe.
BTW, Jonah and I are also crossing the pond EGLL-KJFK, its gonna fun. I depart at 1221z in my UPS MD11. Tried to do a dress rehearsal today, but Jonah's computer froze, so we scrubbed it. Might try it again next weekend.
